Cricket is essentially the national religion here, so a tourist absolutely can rock up. The Galle International Stadium right beside the Dutch Fort is one of the most photogenic grounds in world cricket, with views of the fort ramparts on one side and the Indian Ocean on the other; for atmosphere and photos it is unbeatable. R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo is bigger and hosts most night matches. International (Test, ODI, T20I) tickets are sold via the official Sri Lanka Cricket online portal a few weeks in advance, plus on-the-day sales at the gate for lower tiers. Domestic provincial matches are often free or close to free. Bring sun cover, a hat and water; foreigners are welcomed and locals will happily explain field placings.

Premadasa has the noisy "papare" trumpet bands and dancing in the stands during night matches. Different vibe but a great party.

Galle it is for the next Test, with rampart views as a backup. Thanks legends.

For atmosphere as a complete cricket newbie, Galle wins. Climb the fort ramparts during the match for the iconic view down onto the ground. Free vantage point.
