Popular beaches, hill stations, and cultural sites can get very busy with local families. Prices for accommodation can rise and availability drops. If you're traveling during these periods, book well ahead and expect more crowds at major attractions. Some people prefer to visit during these times for the festive atmosphere, while others avoid them for quieter travel.
The weeks around Sinhala/Tamil New Year (mid-April) are especially busy for domestic tourism. Many places are fully booked months in advance.
