The Kotmale hanging bridge, locally known as the Sangilipalam, is a brilliant hidden gem located spanning the Mahaweli River. It is situated just a short drive from the main Kotmale Dam viewing area.

Walking across the swaying, narrow wooden bridge is a thrilling experience. It offers spectacular, totally uncrowded views of the lush green river valley and the thick jungle canopy on either side.

You will likely need to hire a local tuk tuk driver from the nearby town to find it easily, as the dirt roads leading down to the riverbank are not clearly marked on most digital maps.
