If you have zero tolerance for spice you must be very explicit. Learn the phrase Sere Ne which translates directly to No Spice in Sinhala. Say it clearly with a smile when you order.

Be aware that many local curries are pre cooked in massive pots early in the morning meaning the cooks cannot alter the spice level later. Your safest bet is to order dishes that are cooked fresh to order on the spot like Kottu Roti or Fried Rice.
