The Pusulpitiya Raja Maha Viharaya is an incredible hidden gem located in the Kotmale valley. It is historically massive, believed to have hidden the sacred Tooth Relic during times of ancient war.

The temple is incredibly peaceful and rarely sees foreign tourists. The ancient wooden carvings and the stunning panoramic views over the Kotmale reservoir make the bumpy ride there totally worth it.

It is located near the town of Nawalapitiya. You do not strictly need a specialized guide, but you will definitely need to hire a local tuk tuk driver who knows the rural dirt roads leading up to the quiet temple grounds.
