I play music and want to support local artists or possibly buy a traditional instrument. Any suggestions?

Some cultural centers and music schools in Colombo and Kandy have performances and sometimes sell or can recommend makers of traditional instruments (drums, flutes, string instruments). Buying directly from makers or through reputable cultural organizations is better than tourist shops. If you're serious, connecting with local musicians through guesthouses or cultural events can lead to meaningful exchanges. Supporting live performances (even small ones) helps keep traditions alive.

Some hotels and restaurants that host musicians can sometimes facilitate introductions or sales. It's a small scene but passionate.
