How to verify Sri Lanka Ayurveda is authentic not just a spa?
3 Answers from travellers
Verification steps: (1) Ask to see the resident doctor's SLMC (Sri Lanka Medical Council) registration - real Ayurvedic physicians are registered. (2) Consultation before treatments should be 30-60 min including pulse (nadi pariksha), tongue examination, dosha assessment. (3) Prescribed treatment plan should be individualized, not menu-picked. (4) Dietary regulations during your stay (no alcohol, adjusted meals per your dosha, specific meal timings). (5) Herbal medicines prescribed with plant names. Spa places skip all of these.
Simple test: does the 'Ayurveda center' have a full bar and steak on the menu? Not Ayurveda. Real centers control your diet during your stay. Barberyn, Siddhalepa Ayurveda Health Resort, and Ulpotha meet these standards.
