You do not strictly need a guide for the Ibbankatuwa Megalithic Tombs. The site is small, well preserved, and features excellent informational plaques in English explaining the history of these ancient burial chambers.

It is a very straightforward, quick stop located right on the main road just outside Dambulla. It offers a fascinating thirty minute detour into pre historic Sri Lanka before you hit the main cultural triangle sites.
