Renting a scooter in Mirissa. Standard World Nomads Explorer. Reading fine print, it says 'motorcycles up to 250cc with valid license'. My scooter will be 125cc but I don't have a proper motorcycle license, just car. Am I covered or not?

You're NOT covered. World Nomads specifically requires a valid license for the class of vehicle. Car license doesn't cover scooter/motorcycle unless your home country license explicitly permits it (in some countries it does - UK 'A1 provisional', US varies by state, most EU no). Sri Lanka legally requires you to have an International Driving Permit with motorcycle class endorsement. Renting without = you pay everything out of pocket for any accident. Motorbike accidents are the #1 travel insurance claim here. Please check your home license and consider not renting if not covered.

Ok not risking it. Cancelling the scooter. Going PickMe instead.

^ this is the correct answer. Also: even if 'covered', WN often denies claims where alcohol was involved (even one beer). Read fine print. Real talk - if you're not experienced on a scooter and don't have proper endorsement, skip. Tuk-tuks or PickMe are affordable, and Sri Lankan roads are gnarly.
