Is it polite to bring arrack as a gift to a local host.
We are staying in a home stay. Is a bottle of arrack a good gift for the father.

It heavily depends on the specific family. While many Sri Lankan men highly appreciate a good bottle of premium arrack some families are deeply religious Buddhists or Muslims and strictly forbid alcohol in their homes.
It is much safer to observe the household first. If you see the host drinking a beer in the evening a bottle of Ceylon Arrack makes a phenomenal highly appreciated gift.
If you are unsure the universally accepted and highly polite gift for any Sri Lankan host family is a large box of assorted premium tea or a tin of high quality biscuits or chocolates.
