Eating pre cut fruit from small street carts is universally considered the fastest way to contract a severe stomach bug in Sri Lanka. The vendors frequently wash the fruit and their cutting knives in unfiltered municipal tap water.

Furthermore the fruit often sits completely exposed to the hot tropical sun and flies for hours. To remain totally safe you must only buy whole unpeeled fruits from the market and carefully slice them yourself back in your hotel room.
