Can we even brush our teeth with the tap water or do we need bottled water for everything.

Tap water in Sri Lanka is definitely not safe for direct consumption. The local water filtration systems are not designed to remove all the bacteria that cause severe stomach issues for foreign tourists.

However, brushing your teeth using the tap water in reputable hotels is generally considered completely fine. Just be cautious and avoid swallowing any of the water while rinsing.

If you have a very sensitive stomach, simply use the complimentary bottled water provided in your hotel room to brush your teeth, and explicitly ask for drinks without ice when eating at small street stalls.
