Sunday check-in before six. Wondering if airport train plus a short taxi is realistic, or if we should just book a direct car from Colombo lodging and sleep longer.

For a sub-six check-in, a direct car is usually saner. Train plus taxi adds transfer risk when every minute matters.

Use the train combo for later morning flights. Pre-dawn international is not the day to experiment.
