Does the aquarium have interesting marine life or should we just skip it.

The aquarium inside the Dehiwala Zoo is quite old and relatively small compared to massive international aquariums. It requires a small additional fee on top of your main entrance ticket to enter.

While it does feature a decent variety of local freshwater fish and some colorful reef species, the tanks are quite dated. If you are a serious marine life enthusiast, you might find it underwhelming.

However, if you are visiting with young children, it is dark, cool, and fascinating for them, making the tiny extra cost totally worth it for thirty minutes of peaceful entertainment away from the heat.
