Dambadeniya is definitely worth visiting if you are a deep history enthusiast. While it is not as massive or restored as Sigiriya, climbing the Maliga Gala rock reveals the fascinating foundations of the 13th century royal palace.

It served as the capital of Sri Lanka for forty years. The site is incredibly peaceful and completely free of tourist crowds, offering a very authentic, quiet look into the medieval history of the island.
