Is the hill country fully recovered from Cyclone Ditwah for a May trip

Things are largely back to normal for tourists. Ditwah made landfall on 28 November 2025 and the hill country (Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Badulla, Ella) was the worst hit with landslides, but six months of repairs have reopened the main A-roads and towns. The big caveat: a few minor mountain back-roads and some eco-trails were rebuilt only recently, and slopes are still settling. Stick to main routes, use a known driver, and you will be completely fine. The south coast and cultural triangle were barely touched at all.
Speaking from Ella itself, the town is buzzing and fully operational. Little Adams Peak, Nine Arch Bridge and the cafes are all open. The only thing I tell guests is that after very heavy afternoon rain a couple of viewpoint paths get muddy and slippery, nothing dangerous.
I was in Nuwara Eliya two weeks ago and honestly had no idea anything had happened unless I looked for it. Tea estates green and gorgeous. Go.
This is really reassuring, thank you all. Booking the hill country leg now.
I drive the Kandy to Nuwara Eliya road weekly. It is clear. There is one section near Ramboda where they are still doing slope reinforcement so it goes down to single lane with a flag man, costing maybe 15 extra minutes. Totally manageable.
