I see two different dates for Vesak Poya online. Which one is the official public holiday for state festivals in Sri Lanka.

While May 1 is a Poya day, the official State Vesak Festival will be observed on May 30, 2026. This aligns with the traditional astrological calculations for the Birth and Enlightenment celebrations. Most large thoranas and lantern competition in Colombo will be active during the weekend of May 30. However, many temples will still hold religious programs on May 1.
