The A-frame at Kabalana (The Rock) is generated by a localized offshore sandstone reef outcrop projecting from the sandy ocean floor. Incoming southwest swells (210-225 degrees) refract around both flanks of the rock shelf, converging into a wedging peak with a fast, bowling left and a steeper, shorter right. The left-hander holds swell up to 8 feet, breaking into a deep sandy channel. Surfers should paddle out along the persistent rip current flanking the western side of the rock; this current provides a rapid conveyor belt past the impact zone but requires duck-diving through side-wash whitewash.
