Kalpitiya kite surfing season - is May really peak wind month?

May to September is Kalpitiya's peak kite season - southwest monsoon brings steady 20-30 knot winds daily (perfect for intermediate/advanced), flat water in the lagoon. May-June is windiest, July-August still excellent, September winding down. December to March has 'winter' kite conditions with lighter winds - only for beginners or foil kiting. Kite schools: Kitesurfing Lanka, Kite Lanka, Ruuk Village. Rental gear available or bring your own.
Also: Kappalady lagoon vs Vella island - lagoon better for beginners (flat, waist-deep), Vella for wave riders. Book accommodation ahead in peak - Kite House, Kite World Lanka, Bar Reef Resort.
