Esala Perahera 2026 will be around late July to early August (dates depend on lunar calendar - announced 6 weeks ahead by Temple of the Tooth). Ten nights of processions culminating in the 'Randoli Perahera' (grandest night). Book stand seats through hotels or travel agents 2-3 months ahead - 3000-8000 LKR per seat. Stand seats crowded and hot. Alternative: stand in the crowd along the route for free but arrive 4+ hours early to claim spot. Or watch from a balcony room at Kandy Queens Hotel (books out fast).
For the best experience, book a room with balcony overlooking the parade route (Queen's Hotel, Suisse Hotel) 6 months ahead. Watch in comfort with drinks. Costs premium but the experience is unforgettable.
