Kaudulla National Park (near Habarana) hosts elephant gatherings from July-November when Kaudulla tank waters recede — often 100-300+ elephants visible. Genuine alternative to Minneriya, especially August-October when the Gathering shifts here. Fewer jeeps than Minneriya's peak days.

Half-day safari 5000-8000 LKR per jeep + 6000-10000 LKR park entry per foreigner. Best sunset drive 3-6pm. Bookings via Habarana or Sigiriya operators. Guides typically know which park has the herd on the day — flexible booking helps.
