Yes, easy half-day. Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara (10km north of Colombo) has some of Sri Lanka's finest 20th-century Buddhist murals by Solias Mendis and is where the Duruthu Perahera (Jan full moon) parades — smaller than Kandy but authentic. Tuk-tuk 700-1200 LKR each way, or PickMe.

Best time: early morning weekday to avoid crowds. Combine with lunch at a Kelaniya area kade (rice-and-curry). Dress code: shoulders and knees covered. No shoes inside. Photography of the murals — no flash.
