First time through Kandy. Prepay versus pay-at-desk, which is less of a worry. I cannot tell if this is ordinary or we are about to make a tired mistake.

Do the kind version. Agree before you pay. A worry is not a blotter. Do not invent official fees. Kandy will still be there. Prepay versus pay-at-desk, which is less of a worry is not a reason to push wrecked people into the dark. Then the room.

We paid the silly last-bit fare in a town like Kandy and were in the room in ten minutes. Pride is not a timetable. Kids change the trade.

If the elder already said no, that is the answer. Find a room in Kandy and start later. One pin, not three maybes.
