Genuinely off-tourist-radar. Kirinda is a small fishing village with a dramatic rocky headland topped by a Buddhist shrine (Kirinda Vihara) and a huge open sandy beach mostly empty of tourists. Currents are STRONG — swim only where locals swim, not the open beach. Add a night if you're already at Yala or Tissa; not worth a big detour otherwise.

Combine with a Bundala half-day (5 min drive) — the wetland and Kirinda beach together make a lovely eco day away from Yala's crowds. Sunrise from the temple hilltop is unforgettable.
