Lactose intolerant and coconut milk keeps sneaking into curries — how do I ask restaurants to hold it?
Not egg-veg and not peanut allergy — dairy and coconut milk both bother me. Rice-and-curry places keep sending dishes finished with coconut milk. I try to say no milk, but staff hear vegetarian and smile. What short phrase or card actually works so I am not guessing every pot?

Be specific: no coconut milk, no cow milk, no curd, no cheese — vegetarian alone is not enough because coconut milk is plant and still in half the pots. Point at the gravy and say without coconut milk, dry vegetable, or grilled fish with lemon if you eat it. A small phone note in English plus Sinhala helps. Many kitchens can plate from a less creamy pot if you ask before they ladle. I will not invent menu codes. Thank them when they get it right.
Saved a Sinhala line for no coconut milk on my phone. Worked in Kandy and Galle better than "lactose" alone.
Same clarity energy as post-bug bland asks — name the ingredient, do not rely on diet labels.
We get this ask weekly. Guests who point at the pot before serving get fewer surprises.
