Five days in Colombo and we are done with traffic. Thinking of ditching the city for a quieter countryside base mid-trip. Anyone who actually made that switch and did not regret the logistics.

Plenty of people bail Colombo for hill or south-coast quieter bases mid-trip. Do it with a prepaid room and one bag each - not a full apartment move.

Train or driver hire beats dragging suitcases through Pettah at rush hour. Switch on a morning.

Regret usually comes from underestimating checkout + station time. Pad half a day and you will love the quiet.
