Front desk at guesthouses is usually a family member sleeping nearby — knock politely, wait 5 min. If truly no response: (1) Try calling the number on your booking (WhatsApp works even without a data plan for 30 sec calls). (2) Ring doorbell or knock at family entrance (obvious residence attached to reception). (3) Neighbors often have contact for owner.
Prevention: WhatsApp owner your arrival + check-in confirmation upfront. Keep a hard copy of contact number in wallet. Note the neighbor's house address as backup. Bigger hotels (Cinnamon, Jetwing, Amaya) have 24/7 desks — non-issue. Small guesthouses require some patience at night.
