London to Colombo Feb - do I bring winter coat for the flight home?
3 Answers from travellers
Just pack it. Compressed in a packing cube, a decent winter coat takes 1/4 of a checked bag. Not worth the shipping cost or complication. Practical: wear the coat to the airport in London (doesn't count toward baggage weight), pack it small once you're in Sri Lanka heat. On return, you'll need it walking out of Heathrow. Airports are cold-lined - you'll need it in Heathrow arrivals regardless.
^ this. Also: if you're doing hill country in Sri Lanka (Ella, Nuwara Eliya), you'll actually want a fleece and windbreaker there anyway. Not the London coat, but layered warm clothes. So your 'winter clothes' aren't wasted mid-trip - they're your Ella clothes.
