Macro photography of Rhino horned lizards in Horton Plains during morning yoga

Late April is relatively warm for Horton Plains, but sunrise temperatures still hover around 10 to 14 degrees Celsius. For your yoga session, layer up with thermal leggings. As for the Rhino horned lizard Ceratophora stoddartii, they are extremely sluggish in the morning cold. You will easily find them clinging motionless to dwarf bamboo and tree ferns, making them perfect, cooperative macro subjects before the sun warms them up.
Also keep an eye out for the Pygmy Lizard. They are even smaller and harder to spot, but incredible for macro portfolios.
Bring a ring flash or a diffused off camera flash. The cloud forest canopy blocks a lot of the morning light, and you need a small aperture to get the lizards horn fully in focus.
The mist usually rolls in thick around 10 AM, completely changing the lighting. You get about three golden hours for photography before it turns into a soft box environment.
Doing yoga near Bakers Falls sounds amazing, but remember it is a highly protected national park. You cannot step off the designated paths, so you will have to set your mat up on the wooden viewing platforms.
Watch out for Sambar deer! They will literally walk right up to you while you are posing or setting up a tripod. Do not feed them.
