Stay on if the bus is only paused. A short town walk is how people miss the restart. Stretch in the aisle if you need to move.

We stayed on. Two people got off for a shop and had to wait for the next. Not worth it.

If the conductor says it is a real break and you can see the bus, a five-minute shop is fine. Take nothing you cannot run with.
