Best strategies: (1) Stay at social hostels not boutique guesthouses. (2) Take group tours (safari, cooking class, day hikes) — instant travel companions. (3) Bar area of hostels 6-9pm — natural conversations. (4) Common activities (surf lessons, yoga class) build shared experience. (5) Apps: Meetup for events, Couchsurfing hangouts (still exists).

Best towns for meeting other travelers: Ella (small, everyone crosses paths), Hiriketiya (surf + yoga community), Ahangama (party + surf), Colombo (bigger scene). Solo dining is fine but hostels/activities are meeting-focused.
