We're doing Anuradhapura. Is Mihintale (the birthplace of Buddhism in Sri Lanka) worth the extra half-day or is it similar to Anuradhapura?

Mihintale is much quieter and more atmospheric than Anuradhapura. It's where Buddhism was first introduced to Sri Lanka - the hill has ancient stupas, meditation caves, and beautiful views. It's only 12km from Anuradhapura so easy to combine. Many people prefer it because it feels more spiritual and less like a museum.

If you have any interest in Buddhist history or just want a peaceful place with fewer tourists, do Mihintale. It's one of my favorite sites in the north.
