Mihintale at 4pm under today's heat warning - socks on the steps or we just watch from the car park
Anuradhapura all morning, Mihintale after 3.30. News this morning told people in this province to stop doing strenuous stuff in the day. It is 1,800 steps and they make you take shoes off up top. Is late afternoon the trick or the worst idea. Ticket - is it part of the city pass.

Late afternoon is the correct window - stone cooler than noon, light nicer. Today's advisory still means water, hat, and do not sprint. Shoes off on the sacred terraces; thick socks. You can drive to the upper car park and skip a chunk of the lower stairs if knees are done. Aradhana Gala (the rock of invitation) is the windy bit with railings - not for a gale or a toddler.
We climbed at 4.20, summit before 5.30, down before dark. Fine. Noon would have blistered us.
Separate ticket at the base of the stairs. Ignore anyone offering a cheaper photocopy.
