Mihintale stairs: count them in the legs, not a guidebook — how far is 'the real climb' before a terrace sit is enough

We do not need a number of steps as a brag. We need a turnaround that still feels like Mihintale. August, one mild knee.

The terrace sits are the visit if the knee is the clock. The top is extra sky. Start early, sit to the side, turn around before the grey face. Cover at shrines, hat off when asked, no flash. I will not invent a step count.

People treat anything short of the top as failure. It is not. A shrine, a view, water, down. That is Mihintale.

Turned around at a terrace. Still the photo of the day. Knee still ours.

Partner pushed for the top. Argument became the memory. Terrace next time.
