Milky Way galactic core photography over Nine Arch Bridge: bridge illumination schedules?
3 Answers from travellers
The Nine Arch Bridge does not possess permanent decorative floodlighting. Station approach spotlights and security lights on the bridge tunnel portals remain illuminated until the Night Mail train (Train 1045) passes through Demodara between 3:45 AM and 4:15 AM. Once the night train clears the sector, ambient artificial light levels drop significantly. Between April and August, the Milky Way core arches directly over the bridge gorge between 1:00 AM and 3:30 AM, but photographers must position cameras on western hillside tea terraces to keep tunnel track lights out of the frame.
Private guest houses bordering the gorge often leave balcony security lights blazing all night; bring a long lens hood to block stray lens flares.
Walking onto the bridge deck itself in the dark is monitored by local railway watchmen; stick to public hillside footpaths through the tea bushes.
