Late August already. Are Mirissa whale boats still running this week or is swell making skippers cancel too often to bother booking a morning slot.

Boats still go on calmer mornings this late in August. Ask the operator about yesterday’s swell and their cancel policy before you pay a deposit.

Pick a reputable morning departure and accept that wildlife is never guaranteed. Rough-feel days are for sleeping in, not forcing the bay.

If two mornings look messy, keep the day for Galle or Unawatuna instead of sitting in a cancelled-boat lobby.
