Nalanda Gedige (near Matale, geographic center of Sri Lanka) is a rare 8th-10th century stone temple showing Buddhist iconography in South Indian Hindu Dravidian architectural style — the only such fusion structure in Sri Lanka. Rebuilt block by block after a colonial dam project. Small, atmospheric, deeply photogenic.

Free entry, quick visit (30-45 min). Best on the way between Kandy and Cultural Triangle. Locals may not know the site name — say 'Nalanda old temple'. Bring a wide-angle lens for the whole facade in one shot.
