Nalanda Gedige is a fascinating archaeological mystery. It was built between the 8th and 10th centuries and uniquely features heavy South Indian Hindu architectural elements, specifically Pallava style, combined seamlessly with Buddhist carvings. It is widely considered one of the earliest stone buildings constructed in Sri Lanka.
