Namkarana (Sinhala Buddhist naming ceremony) traditionally held 30-40 days after birth in a family home — an intimate family ritual. Foreigners usually only observe if invited by family (guesthouse host, friend). Not a public event. If invited, wear white/light colors, bring a small gift for baby (baby clothes, gold coin, blessing card).

Ceremony includes: astrologer casting the horoscope, family priest or elder writing baby's name in rice grains, blessings with sacred water. Very sweet, brief (30-45 min). Sit quietly, accept the offered food. Photos OK with family's permission.
