Nice quiet places to read or work in tourist areas (cafes, libraries, etc.)?
I like having a good book or working in peaceful surroundings. Any recommendations?

Many boutique hotels and guesthouses have lovely quiet verandas, gardens, or library corners. In Galle Fort there are some charming small cafes and hotel lounges that are peaceful during the day. The public library in Colombo is grand but can be busy. Some larger hotels allow day visitors to use their facilities for a fee. Smaller guesthouses are often the most peaceful - just ask if they have a quiet corner you can use.
Early morning in temple grounds (outside prayer times) or by reservoirs can be incredibly peaceful for reading. Many travelers just find a quiet spot on the beach or a guesthouse garden.
