Nilaveli: longer, wider, quieter beach with fewer restaurants and mostly hotel-based dining; better for pure beach downtime and Pigeon Island snorkel access. Uppuveli: shorter but livelier, walkable restaurant strip, better for solo/social travelers, easier tuk-tuks. Water clarity and swim quality similar in season (Mar-Sept).

Food edge to Uppuveli — a handful of long-standing beach cafes with better variety (seafood, some Tamil-style dishes, decent breakfasts). Nilaveli hotel restaurants are fine but repetitive over 4 nights.
