First train usually 6:20-6:40am (verify same-day - schedules shift). Additional trains around 9:20am, 12:20pm, 3:00pm, 5:40pm. First and last are quietest for photos. Show up 30 min before with your spot picked. Alternative: walk INTO the gorge (path from Ella village) for a much better angle looking UP at the train crossing, with almost no other tourists. 30-min walk each way.

Confirm the day's schedule with your Ella guesthouse - they call the station and know. Trains sometimes run 30-45 min late. Also worth: the bridge at sunset without a train is beautiful too.
