Nuwara Eliya Grand Hotel review - still worth staying?
3 Answers from travellers
Grand Hotel Nuwara Eliya is a landmark - genuinely historic (1891 built), still operating, still charming, but showing its age. Rooms vary hugely - request 'Governor's Wing' for renovated + character, avoid basic rooms which can feel dated. Afternoon tea in the lounge is iconic (English scones, tea service). Rooms USD 100-200/night. For heritage charm: yes worth. For modern luxury: no - go to Heritance Tea Factory nearby instead.
Alternative: Heritance Tea Factory (Kandapola) - actual converted tea factory, modern rooms, ropey views. About 45 min from Nuwara Eliya. More modern comfort. Or Ceylon Tea Trails for full immersion.
