Lovers Leap waterfall (elevation 1,900m) is a picturesque 30-meter cascade formed along the southern slopes of Pidurutalagala (Sri Lanka's highest peak). Groundwater percolating through high-altitude cloud forest catchment emerges along a major tectonic fault line, plunging over vertical khondalite-gneiss rock cliffs. The stream feeds directly into irrigation channels supplying the surrounding Pedro Tea Estate. The icy mountain runoff and local mist maintain low soil temperatures, slowing Camellia sinensis growth rates and concentrating delicate aromatic terpenes that define high-grown Nuwara Eliya black tea.
The 2km trail to the falls begins at the Pedro Tea Factory gate, winding through vibrant green tea terraces and eucalyptus woodland paths.
Local folklore names the waterfall after a royal prince who plunged from the cliff with his forbidden lover.
