Nuwara Eliya is Sri Lanka’s highest tea-growing district, situated between 1,800 and 2,100 meters elevation. The tea terroir is defined by high-altitude tropical mountain conditions: acidic red-yellow podzolic soils with a natural pH between 4.5 and 5.0 (ideal for Camellia sinensis aluminum uptake), intense ultraviolet solar radiation by day, and cold frosty nights dropping near 5°C. This sharp diurnal temperature variation slows vegetative growth, concentrating aromatic secondary metabolites, polyphenols, and essential oils inside tender tea shoots. The resulting cup is pale, light-bodied, highly aromatic, and delightfully brisk.
