Oshada Kurakkan is a drought-resilient finger millet cultivar bred from traditional Sri Lankan landraces at Mahailluppallama. It thrives in arid red-yellow latosols receiving under 400mm of seasonal rain. Its extensive fibrous root system secretes organic malate acids that mobilize insoluble soil calcium and silica, concentrating over 340mg of bioavailable calcium per 100g of whole grain (triple the concentration of dairy milk). Its starch granules possess a high amylose-to-amylopectin ratio, creating high resistant starch content that prevents post-prandial glycemic spikes.
