Some homestays and eco-farms offer hands-on paddy planting (June-July or November-January depending on region). Wade into flooded paddies, plant seedlings alongside farmers. Beautiful and back-breaking. Half-day experience 3000-5000 LKR.

Locations: Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa area farmstays; Rakwana in south; parts of Jaffna. Wear old clothes — mud everywhere. Bring hat, water. Best November-February when weather kinder. Community-based farms give money directly to farming families.
