Partner card declined three times at lunch — what is a sane cash-only backup mid-trip?

South coast lunch. Partner card declined at two restaurants and a small supermarket — same Visa, different terminals. We have some rupees but not enough for the next three days of rooms and food. Bank app shows the card should work. I am not asking for a secret tourist ATM rate as gospel — just how people actually rebuild a cash cushion fast without freezing the whole itinerary. Hotel cash, ATM withdrawal limits, or call the bank first?

Call the bank first from wifi so they clear travel flags, then withdraw what you need from a bank ATM in town — not a random roadside machine at night. Keep enough cash for rooms and food for a few days, but do not empty the account into one wallet. Hotels often take cash for the remaining nights if you explain the declines calmly. I will not invent a fixed withdrawal ceiling as if every bank matches. Split cash, keep the card for another try later, and screenshot any decline slips.

Bank said travel flag. Ten minutes on a call, then a town ATM. We kept a small cushion and stopped trying every cafe terminal.

Split the cash, leave some in the room safe, try the card again tomorrow on a bank terminal not a beach cafe.
