Partner insists on a midnight cemetery haunted tour — real local history walk or a cash-deposit scam?

Hostel chat and a street tout both pitch a midnight haunted cemetery tour with a guide fee up front and a vague meetup behind a gate. Partner loves ghost stories. I smell a dark empty place plus a deposit we will not see again. How do travelers separate a daytime heritage cemetery walk from a night pitch that is mostly theater or worse?

Treat a large cash deposit for a midnight cemetery meetup behind a gate as a walk-away. Real heritage cemeteries are better as daylight visits with a known guide or a guidebook — you get history without the empty-lot risk. Night ghost theater exists as entertainment in some cities, but only with a clear operator, a public meeting point, and no passport or big float held hostage. I will not invent an official haunted-tour licence fee. If the pitch needs secrecy and cash first, skip it and do the daytime walk.

Daytime colonial cemetery with a pamphlet. Partner got stories; I kept my wallet and sleep.

Big cash deposit for a midnight cemetery walk is an automatic no from me.

Daylight graves and plaques beat any night tout. Atmosphere without the scam shape.

Steering partner to a daytime cemetery walk. Midnight deposit pitch is dead to us.
