Partner needs wheelchair / step-free access at a fort museum — what do travelers actually find?

Galle Fort area museum visit. Partner uses a wheelchair part of the day. Online photos show stairs and uneven thresholds. We are not asking for an invented accessibility fee — we need honest traveler reports. Do staff help at a flatter gate, is it partial ground-level only, or should we skip and choose a flatter site?

Historic forts are uneven by nature — expect cobbles, some steps, and partial access more often than a full modern ramp circuit. Call or message ahead, ask which entrance has the fewest steps, and which halls are ground-level. Staff often meet visitors and suggest a realistic loop. I will not invent an accessibility ticket price. A partial visit of reachable rooms plus an outdoor rampart viewpoint can still be worthwhile; if full step-free is mandatory, choose a flatter museum or outdoor site that day and keep the fort for a companion photo walk.
